How bank reconciliation works in Valerium today

A lot of platforms promise to 'connect your bank automatically' and deliver a fragile experience full of reauthorizations and incomplete data. We would rather be upfront: today, in Valerium, bank reconciliation works from the statement you import — from any bank. It is simple, predictable, and does not depend on a third-party integration being available.

How it works today

You export your bank's statement (CSV) and import it in Transactions. Valerium maps the columns, you review before confirming, and from there the categorization rules you set up apply automatically to matching transactions. Receipts and invoices can be attached to any transaction — one by one or in bulk — to keep everything traceable.

Rule-based categorization, not guesswork

Rules are predictable: you define that transactions with a given description or amount fall into a given category, and Valerium applies that consistently, every time. That is different from an AI that 'guesses' the category and gets it wrong silently. You stay in control of what lands in each line of your income statement.

Automatic bank connections: on our roadmap

Automatic bank connections — without exporting and importing a file — are on our roadmap. When they ship, the statement workflow you already use today keeps working the same way; the automation only removes a manual step, it does not change rule-based categorization or how receipts stay attached to transactions.

We would rather ship a statement import that always works than promise an automatic connection that fails silently.

Being clear about what exists today is part of how we build Valerium. Statement-based reconciliation already solves the real problem — organizing and understanding cash flow — and automatic connection, when it arrives, will only make that first step faster.
